About Perimae

The menopause aisle is full of confident answers. Kitchen-sink formulas, claims the evidence doesn’t carry, and a great deal of writing that sounds authoritative and cites nothing. If you have spent an evening trying to work out whether what is happening to you is perimenopause, you will have met most of it.

Perimae exists to be the opposite of that. Fewer claims, all of them sourced. Where the evidence is mixed, we say it is mixed. Where nobody knows yet, we publish that, because it is more useful than a confident guess.

Who writes it

Ann Suleman. Ann Suleman is going through menopause herself. She isn't a nutritionist or a doctor — she reads the evidence carefully, cites it, and writes about what she finds.

That matters both ways round. First-hand experience is worth something — she knows what it is like to be reading this at two in the morning. It is also not a clinical qualification, and nothing on this site is written as though it were. Where an article draws on her own experience it says so. Where it doesn’t, none is invented.

Ann reads everything published under her name before it goes live. That is a rule, not an aspiration.

The editorial standard

Every article is written against the same standard. In short:

  • Every factual claim is traceable to a named source. Not “studies show” — the study, named and linked. Preference runs systematic reviews first, then NICE and NHS guidance, then individual peer-reviewed trials, then official registers and regulators.
  • Numbers are looked up, every time. Doses, thresholds, prevalence figures. Nothing inferred, nothing rounded from memory.
  • Uncertainty is stated where it exists. Small studies, wrong population, industry funding — said out loud rather than smoothed over.
  • Not acceptable as a source: other supplement brands, content farms, press releases, or anything without a traceable original.
  • No medicinal claims. Perimae does not claim to prevent, treat or cure anything. Where products are discussed, claims come only from the authorised GB health claims list, in the approved wording.

Two dates appear on every article, and they mean different things. Updated is when the words were edited. Evidence last checked is when the sources were re-read against current guidance. Guidance changes; if a cited study is superseded or retracted, the article gets corrected rather than quietly deleted.

What this site isn’t

It isn’t medical advice, and it isn’t a substitute for seeing your GP, who can consider your own history and circumstances. It is background — the reading you might do before an appointment so that ten minutes goes further.

Getting in touch

Corrections especially welcome. If something here is wrong, or a source doesn’t say what we’ve said it says, write to hello@perimae.com and it will be looked at properly.
